Belarus considers Ireland as an important European partner and aims to build equal and mutually beneficial relations with the country. Ireland is one of the first European states to recognise independence of Belarus.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Ireland were established on March 27, 1992.
On December 18, 2006 the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in Ireland Aleksandr Mikhnevich presented his credentials to the President of Ireland Mary McAleese. On July 30th, 2009 the Ambassador of Ireland Donal Denham presented copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Martynov.
Certain activation of bilateral political dialogue in 2008-2009 coincided with settlement of recuperation of minor citizens of Belarus in Ireland.
On October 13h, 2008 a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Martynov and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland Michael Martin took place during session of EU Council on General Affairs and External Relations in Luxembourg.
