Belarus considers Ireland as an important European partner and aims to build equal and mutually beneficial relations with the country. Ireland is one of the first European states which recognised independence of Belarus.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Ireland were established on March 27th, 1992.

On December 18th, 2006 the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in Ireland Aleksandr Mikhnevich presented his credentials to the President of Ireland Mary McAleese.

On October 19th, 2009 the Ambassador of Ireland Donal Denham presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

During the existence of Belarus as a sovereign state one visit of high level took place (on June 9th, 2005 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland visited Belarus).

Certain activization of the bilateral political dialogue in 2008-2009 was related to the settlement of recuperation of minor citizens of Belarus in Ireland (on February 23rd, 2009 the Governments of Belarus and Ireland signed the proper agreement).

On September 9th, 2008 a meeting of the Ambassador of Ireland in Belarus Jastin Harman with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky took place in Minsk.

On September 11th, 2008 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland met with the Belarusian Charge d'Affaires ad interim in Dublin.

On October 13th, 2008 a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Martynov and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland Michael Martin took place during the session of EU Council on General Affairs and External Relations in Luxembourg.

On June 10th, 2009 the Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Skripko met with the Ambassador of Ireland D.Denham.
